Sekaiseifukudan: More than just Toys, Art from My Heart

Finally, my Sekaiseifukudan figurine series will be released today.
Except for the people in production and photographers, nobody has seen them in person. I am really glad and happy that some people already ordered and got them without seeing or holding them in person.

I was thinking long time about creating figurines of my characters with transparent form, the idea is something that I have been always fascinated to capture or create in my art work. I have been seeing some transparent figurines out there from long time ago, so I know it is possible to make, but I wanted to put a floating heart in every each one.

Having a floating object inside of a figurine — technically it was a big challenge nobody had done before — at least I believe for sure that it was first time to try for the artists at Heroine International Limited where my Sekaiseifukudan were produced. And they really tried, so much talent, so many methods, and so much time. Sekaiseifukudan is made by hard plastic and silicon filled, so the heart can float in the body, which nobody could achieve before or wanted to because of the expense. But producer Mike Watson at Inner Sanctum believed in me and all my ideas, so he agreed to make them how I wanted. And of course, as an artist I was really picky.

Because of their unique designs, not only materials, but also coloring materials, and painting on each of them, it was a really big manufacturing challenge. Being really picky about color and texture and so many things, it took a long time and a big effort to make them look PERFECT!

And here they are, every each one is so carefully made and packed in a beautiful custom designed black box, ready to be held in someone's hands.

I am really grateful to Mike Watson and Rachel Stone at Inner Sanctum and all the people who are still working at Heroine International Limited for making one of my biggest dreams come true! Jack Muramatsu, your photographs and posts have been really helping me out. Thank you so much Vinyl Pulse! Eric Nakamura, thank you so much for your support. I am really happy to be able to have release event at Giant Robot!

that is what a doctor said, after he was rescued from the hospital in Sendai,
when he had his first son in a hospital in another city
where his wife was at from right before earthquake hit.
he was directly hit by the tsunami, and still tried to help patients but lost 7 lives.
he felt really powerless, and he said, he was not able to feel happiness,
since he knows how many lives were lost.
his words are the truth.
it is miracle we are alive.

'we will be alright, just look forward, we can make it",
grand mother who was at one of evacuated facility, just ate a small fish cake.
it was her dinner, and might be her last since she doesn't know when she will be able to eat.
there is no more food.
what she ate on the last day, one strawberry, one banana, and one small fish cake.

a young father was finally able to talk to his daughter on the phone,
and said,
"oh~ finally i was able to hear your voice, i wish i could hold you right now but i cannot,
hang in there, just look forward, we will be alright..."

i believe that any contribution, big or small, will help many lives and bring some hope to those affected by this horrific disaster.

and so these events are happening with all people who feel care and love.

I got a call from one of my collectors who got two of my paintings, and asked me if I wanted to make toys in last Spring,
and so of course I said YES!
I explained them about my dream and plan of my characters in paintings and projects I have been working on pretty long time since i was in school, and they really LOVE it.
and so here we are!!! Thank you so much Mike and Rachel!! and all artists at Heroine International Limited!
Without your love,( i would love to say it is love) it wouldn't happpen

here are some of my sketches I sent to Heroine, they were so talented to figure out how I really wanted in 3D shapes!!!!!!
I was really really picky and selfish about how I want, without knowing the architects in materials and so on,
but I could have great communication and relationship with them while in production, I felt so lucky to work with them.

When you have them, you look at them and make big smile at them. That is all I want and SEKAISEIFUKUDAN want.

Sena and I went to Boston to stay with my sister( biggest one in photo) and tomochan(center) from 12/25-1/1...

we planed to go to NY, but gave up to do so because of blizzard..(T-T)
missed Nara Yoshitomo show...

But it is impossible to experience blizzard in where we live, so we went outside and took some pictures...
OMG... sooooo cold that we could be outside just 2 min.

and i tried to make a snow bunny...it was not so easy...( the year of rabbit this year you know...)

so anyway, we just decided to EAT! (since i did not have to spend money in NY...)

First, We ate Cubano sandwich which my sister Yumiko highly recommended,
and it was BEST SANDWICH EVER I ATE IN WHOLE MY LIFE!!!

and had hot chocolate! super goooooooood!! ah~~~ so decadent!

and and ate pretty good italian and super fresh chocolate souffle for first time ever

need to order desserts when you order food... since they bake desserts, while you are eating food...
ah~~~~~ need to go back for chocolate souffle..

we were not able to take pictures,,, we wish we could though,
everything was just beautiful...

Wow already Thanksgivingday!..time passes so fast....
how we will spend time today is gathering with friends, eating and drinking!
I feel full if I even think about it...

It was quite different from past Cons, besides feeling kind of famous? (>_<)!!
I had pretty good geeky time!
After finished work today, I was tired from the weekend, ate and felt sleep, and woke up around 12 am and then start painting,
and finished painting for today, and now blogging. I should sleep since need to wake up 7 am and go to work....
oh well...I am not sleepy...

so here is my newest painting I am still working for the show, " Love Conquers All: Art For Equality" at Thinkspace Art Gallery

San Diego Comic Con and Sea No Evil!

It is getting so hot in Los Angeles,,kind of weird to feel this much hot,,hope it will be better next week...
From next Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I will be at Comic-Con in San Diego,
one of my favorite events in summer time, and this year, I feel something special.
I have some favorites stores at Comic-Con, and every each year I have been excited going back to the stores to find cool new books, art works and toys,
and one of them is Stuart Ng Books Booth #5012
they carry really rare good books and I always find something I want there,
and this year, I will do signing and sketching for my books there!
OMG!! (>_<)!!
schedule is 7/4, Saturday, 4:30pm-6:30pm!

Before that signing, I will do sketching under a camera at Sketch Theatre Booth #5563 I drew my friend last year,
what I should draw this year....I need to think....oh maybe I will draw Sena!

i am trying to concentrate, but it is not easy today...
sometimes,, maybe most of time, i cannot concentrate enough to keep painting..it is really random.
what i am doing besides painting
i go to work, come back and cook dinner, eat, checking e-mail, twitter or facebook
and Sena,,
she is studying so hard everyday,, too much homework, too many tests,
because of her, i can kick myself to motivate more...not just go to sleep instead painting.
well i have only two more weeks to finish...after that, first thing i want to do is.."KARAOKE~"

i have been working for my solo show...well actually 2 persons show..but i got my own room to show my works so i think i can call it as solo show.. yeah.
i am painting now,, i just got a little brake so i am blogging..

i started full time job almost 1 month ago, i hope i can keep the job for long enough.....now i am a graphic designer for t-shirts.....it is secret, i cannot tell detail about...big competetion!
...once they come out at stores, i will let you know!! i am really excited and enjoying my job, but kind of scared,,cause it is not easy to keep everything always cool... need to design soooo good or i cannot keep the job...well i will see...
Anyway, so i got a job that i can paint without WORRY too much about a lot of STUFF..
i believe there are miracles and happens always,,i got a super lucky star...of course that is sena.

Since opening night was so crowded and crazy (have you seen the pictures and video up on the Merry Karnowsky Gallery site or my blog?), and we didn't get much of a chance to speak with each other, I want to have a closing get-together this coming Saturday, the 7th from 3 to 6 pm. It was great fun...I will totally come back to the show for sure, since I was not able to really see the exhibition itself, there were too many people.. I mean I had three sapporo beer (small) and some foods, and having fun meeting new people and my friends, but I was not able to see every each one, not only art works but also Hello Kitty stuff...there are many many stuff I need to check out...
And I want to eat Kitty chan waffle too,,so..
Anyway here are some show and tell.

I got in the Royal-T, first, I just wanted to see where my painting was, so tried to go to the gallery space, which was far back of the store, so took pretty long time to reach there. Royal-T is pretty big.

Oh, first thing we did was actually got goody bags.. line was so long, but Sena did good job to get them pretty first.

my painting got really good placement, the spot of its my archenemy above, so told him and took picture with, but his pushing my head down pose made me feel,,,....we need to fight when we have time...

and there was lovely Pink Natalia, Sena and I will be model for her sometime soon.

I found James Jean and Travis.. long hairs...And and..I will paint Wen!.. soon! I love James Jean's painting of her....,I am super lucky,,ganbaru.

What is becoming of the ‘us’ – the ‘each of us’?
Where will all of our technology leave us?
Maybe it’s our detachment from the reality of mass human
destruction, or the invited dehumanization of our
existence through computers and online interactions. It
could be our growing desensitization to cruelty, to violence
and to suffering through the television invasion.
Whatever it is, it appears we have stopped celebrating,
or even acknowledging, the very thing that defines
our entire race – our humanity. We are offering it up,
as though sacrificially, to the machines we create and
worship.

Because of this almost inevitable crisis of self, we find
it important again, maybe now more than ever in the
history of art making, to cling to our most basic possession
– the human form. Call it a quiet revolution – the
lone artist embracing the representation of man again
– slowly and deliberately turning himself back around
to look at himself again. Through the idiosyncratic self,
the artists in this show collectively identify the masses:
the every man, the other men, the always woman and the sometimes child – their existences, their truths, their triumphs and
their failures. These artists remind us that we, the family of man, must not allow ourselves to disappear.

This selected small, though strong group of artists is just a sampling of those who reflect the value that is being put back
on the human form. These are artists who reach again to cling to the arms, to the legs and to the hearts of humankind for
inspiration, and in doing so, remind us of what we are – the good and the bad – the beautiful restfulness and the harrowing
despair.

Not a school or a group or a movement in the –ism sense, these artists are as different at times as they are similar, investigating
mankind through courageous and honest contemplation. Bringing to the show painting, sculpture and photography,
the following artists welcome us back to our basic needs and realities:

In association with local artist Paul Friedrich, Artspace presents The Conquerors, an exhibition showcasing cutting-edge American artwork. The Conquerors features the work of five nationally known artists exhibiting for the first time in Raleigh: Mark Bodnar, Mari Inukai, Liz McGrath, Bill McRight, and Bonnie Brenda Scott. These artists are recognized as dynamic leaders of the Lowbrow painting style from the pages of Juxtopoz and Hi Fructose magazines.

Originating in California in the early 1980's and currently moving towards the East Coast, Lowbrow is a rapidly spreading underground art movement that combines traditional painting subject matter with modern ingredients of underground comics, hot-rod culture, and punk rock. The Conquerors reflects current trends in the Lowbrow genre from the East and West Coasts.

In conjunction with The Conquerors, Artspace will feature LoPop Shop from 6-10pm during the First Friday Gallery Walk on September 4, 2009. Organized with the assistance of artist Casey Porn, LoPop Shop primarily highlights North Carolina’s LoPop style. LoPop builds on the themes of Lowbrow art, but often employs more humor than sarcasm, as well as brighter colors and bolder line work. The LoPop Shop is an opportunity to buy original works, shirts, posters, and more from the exhibiting artists as well as regional LoPop artists including Ahpeele, Paul Friedrich, and more!

AUGUST what i have been doing...

i did a sketch of a new painting for GR2 group show,
i have been painting for up coming group show at Nucleus end of this month, and i need to finish them soon, i will have one reborn painting and two new paintings.

And the same time i have been doing something to survive in this world, and what i am doing for that is not enough for making me safe yet, but it is not easy to feel safe in this world now, so i should not weep about.
i am an independent, but i am too dependent, it is all my fault to put me in this way now. wow.. i sound super emo for sure.
Being an adult is really hard.....should not to be hard? or i should not say hard..or should not say ANYTHING.
So well anyway, i started re-thinking again..
and i had been lost...ha ha as usual...

i really really need inspiration, motivation, stimulus.

One of my friend told me, i should draw syunga,,yes,,right?! that is how i thought.
i have been thinking about painting more pretty ero and nippon jin paintings
and
i actually decided my next year solo shows' title, which is DECADENT.
well anyway and so i did started.

WA~OH!! 15 years,, first time when I saw the magazine,, it was not fancy like now yet cool, that is how I remember, heard one student at UCLA made the magazine, thought really cool again, and then first time when I went to the store on Sawtelle Blvd,, I was like" he~y! reminds me of cool stores in Japan", and became one of my favorite store to go to see,,

and now I am the one of artists who will contribute for its 15 years' celebration!!

Sena asked me to make one for her...
And so I did.

She brought out her album and showed me how she looked when she was 5.
I was trying to visualize her as 5, but it was kind of hard to do so..

She said to me,"DID U FORGET???"
Ha..ha.. I just did not remember her hair style,, that was all though...
(Well,,actually,,,need time to make myself clear to do so,, you know,, it was long time ago..)

And it was actually really fun to make it.

I tried to get out the MEMORIES from the drawer in my brain,
in order to get the images of,,what kind of clothes she was wearing, what did she like???
And I thought about Sailor Moon,
I was drawing Sailor Moon characters, and Sena was just all Sailor Moon...Wait a minute!
That was when she was just 3.4 year~s old.... Yeah,,!
Now I really remember..Ha ha
Anyway,
I just tried to draw Sailor Moon again,,, and I enjoyed doing that and actually I thought,, she is really beautiful...
As character design, she is really good..!!
Well, or how come my lovely Sena was addicted to... and of course, I read all comics and saw the first Sailormoon movie and cried..serious..

Sena told me when she saw the drawing,
just..
"WOW"
She agreed with me how beautifully complicated the design of eyes were..
and told me,,
"Wha~t I was smaller when I love sailormoon~ I loved POKEMON!"
yeah~ I totally remember now... sorry Sena...

Let see, how I should start...
I finished Jeana painting,
which is for Monster show at Copro Gallery in July, (I like it!)
and I thought about what she had been doing??
after I met her at her solo show opening on 16th.
(show is still going on at TAYLOR DE CORDOBA till June 27th.)
And then I got an email from her said," let's have coffee",
so I went to see Jeana to get her yummy coffee (she makes seriously good cappuccino),
and to have girls chat this afternoon.
And I got her pillowcase!! Oh yeah!!
which are still available, so check her blog!!
We had pretty exciting conversation about "what is going on with our future...."
So all I can say is " Stay tuned with Jeana.. something good and big are going to come out from her.. Jeana Monster is awake.."

Here is my painting for the show, "SAKURA SAKE"

in order to get inspiration to create this painting, i checked new game trailers and movie trailer, yet i tried to focus on what i can create as who i am,
Sakura is my favorite flower and mean pretty a lot to me.
When sakura fill in whole japan from south to north, people finish old life and start new life,
i still remember, i was standing between my mom and teacher, wearing uniform, close my mouth really tight, under sakura trees on the day i graduated kindergarten.
and i remember when my first boyfriend kissed on my cheek under a sakura tree at Takamu jinjya (SINTO temple) on the first day of middle school.
etc..etc...almost every each year there was something, till i got out Japan.
So anyway, always, when i draw sakura,, i get emotional, since all memories around sakura time are just so clear and important part of my life.
sakura sake means bloom sakura, but also, i meant, hope for bloom, and acceptance.
and besides those serious thought,
i just thought that, Sakura should wear something warm during winter,,,,ha ha,
i made a dialogue line for her while i was drawing her,," atashi datte samuindayone,fuyuha sa."

i finished this painting too!!! how do you think? i think i want to make prints of this painting,,, do you think it is good idea?
( can you see sakura in this painting too....?>_<)

Spring?!

i think it is Spring... right?
well,, it gets cold night time,,, but..
i smell flower more, and my allergy is getting really bad,, getting sleepy easily,,ha ha, doesn't sound really good though.

Somehow, i felt that winter was soooo long,,,
( i guess because we are in dark economical depression,,which is hitting my life now though.)
But,,anyway, i should stay positive with having good posture, and looking up not looking down.
i am still so lucky that i am able to draw and paint because of love and support from my family and friends.

NARA YOSHITOMO: KAWAII!!!

Yoshitomo Nara's show at Blum & Poe was over today where I went three times to exhale..At second time, I went with Sena and we took a lot of pictures, and of course, we kept saying, "KAWAII!! HOSHII!!" so many times.

And here is the picture.. Gesture we are making is "KAWAII!!: CUTE!!!!" Ha Ha...Ah~!

It was first time for me to see his original drawings and paintings, and all his characters in artworks are so cute,, just so so so cute, yet they look sad and mad. I wish I could have them all and give them LOVE and HUGS.

誕生日おめでとう～～！！

今日は焼酎でまりちゃんがこの世界に生まれてきたことを祝ってかんぱい～～～～～。

I got a funny BD card from my sister..
who was so small when she was a kid, but who is so...(cannot even describe) now, gave me beautiful heartful words on that card.
( I am the one with bawl cut head,,he he )

I had enough sho-chu on Wednesday 7th. and got happy birthday hugs and love from my friends, and I had buzzed lazy head all day yesterday.
But tried to be positive and active and creative.
Because the words on the card made my eyes opened...(T_T)

And I got a whole pecan pie and pumpkin pie from Beth and Tom..(how we are going to finish these.......)

And Kent took sena and me for dinner, and we went to a book store, and I found a really really good children book.
I read it to Sena,
artworks on every each page are amazing and which are funny and strong, and words are simple and beautiful, of course, they are funny and strong also.
The story was about "what are you doing right now"
first I was just laughing and after I read last page....I couldn't stop crying..
And Sena asked me, "do you want it?" I just nod,
and she got it for me..(T_T)

and then, I went to Chihiro and Bryan's to pick up my car...( I was not able to drive back, since I was so drunk.ha ha)

And I got these pins from them.!!
Bryan made them for me...(T_T)

And I got a "silkscreen print painting" from Kent!!! oh my go~sh!!(>_<)

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you have good one?
I guess I ate too much and stuff, so my stomach feels tired.. so I decided to clean...NO MORE FOOD,,just kidding..
But kind of.
I have been playing, "Animal Crossing-cityfork" A LOT!
I am obsessed.
Even when I am outside of the game world, thinking about my town in the game, so honestly most of time, I feel like still I am inside of the game, living with cute animals.
And I am able to visit my friends, who even lives in Japan...how cool is that.

SO ANYWAY,

"VIVISECT PLAYSET V", opening will be on Friday, December 5th. This is 3rd time, and I transformed myself to a monkey and a yellow bird.

I wanted to try to draw all different in technique and medium,
in order to express the meaning of "line", how they mean to me in different way not only visually but also emotionally.
Lines are most important aspect in my visualization.
and also, favorite things to play with.
if I could put title for my group of drawings for this show,
It would be
" IRO-IRO"
which traslate to English,"variety of colors",
there are unlimited colors and weight( meaning) in between one dot to lines: between white(paper) to black(lines).
that is how I think about TRUTH also...as usual.

I only made three at that time for test,,, if my hats get attention.... I know one is sold,,, but,,, may be two of them are still there, or please ask shop people about if you would get one...

In Gallery II, the work of Jennifer Davis and Suzanne Sattler will be presented, two artists whose intimate, graphic works' apparent whimsy belies a dark side in the relationship between nature and mankind. Jennifer Davis' Fruitstripe-hued acrylic and graphite on panel pieces are breezy with a sparse purity to their folksy scenes. Pussy willows bloom and dissipate. Bunnies conspire in striped sweaters, whispering tales of predatory doom. A sadness lurks beneath Davis' dreamlike imagery, the melancholy of evaporating daydreams and the inevitable passage of time. Suzanne Sattler's drawings explore the symbiotic and at times parasitic relationships that exist between animals and human beings. Hummingbirds sip from a trail of blood that oozes from a drowsing man's nose. A girl weeps, despite her seeming culpability, over the body of a flayed creature as shredded tendrils of its spirit waft up and away. Softly rendered in pencil on paper, Sattler's humans are passive subordinates, resigned to a fate inextricably entwined with nature's consummate atrophy.

It was great opening at MKG on last Saturday, without doubt, Kent Williams's visualization is up there in different level.

Merry Karnowsky Gallery is proud to present a solo exhibition by renowned Los Angeles-based artist Kent Williams. Applying his distinctive draftsmanship and painterly breadth, Williams continues to investigate the direct portrayal of human physiognomy and character. Presenting us with paintings that show both the figure in states of quiet observation, as well as full-blown struggle, Williams oscillates between how he portrays the contradictions posed by common existential realities.

Like a vivisection of sorts, the figures in Williams' canvases are often taken apart and physically fragmented by their surroundings. The intercut sections of the human body within Williams' turbid, abstracted backgrounds suggest an atmospheric mien - a proposal on how one's own environment plays a role in the stability of one's emotional life. This observance reveals life as a series of changes brought on by personal choices or external causes, but always compounded by the force these changes have on one's daily life and perspective. This human condition creates unforeseeable turbulence in the lives of Williams' beleaguered figures. Whether etched upon the faces of his subjects or shown through the shards of their fractured bodies, the inherent psychology of struggle is in the paint and portrayal of these figures and the spaces they occupy. This portrayal ultimately reveals the fragility of the human condition; deftly expressed in Williams' sympathetic hands.

In his newest work, Williams explores various materials, incorporating altered multiples, using a combination of silkscreen, oil and resin, both on canvas and paper.

Kent Williams' work has been the subject of a number of solo exhibitions over the past ten years, including shows in New York City, San Francisco, CA, Sundance, UT, The Duke Museum of Art, Durham, NC, and Los Angeles, CA. His painting was exhibited at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC as part of THE OUTWIN BOOCHEVER 2006 PORTRAIT EXHIBITION. The artist currently lives and works in Los Angeles.

I have been organizing, "what I should do" everyday little by little, trying to be productive
to get rid of frustration.
My biggest reason for frustration is NO JOB NOW.
But because of that I am able to organize, "what I want to do" also.
and well, yet I am able to paint everyday which is my most favorite thing to do,
but unfortunately I am not able to feel SAFE for living, I want to feel safe.
I am scared..yes again..but I am thankful for being alive and where I am.
Yet I am frustrated.
I get most frustrated when I do not feel satisfied with filling up responsibility.

I have SENA, it is 100% my responsibility to make her feel safe, so it has been not easy.

My dream was "becoming an artist", since I was 12 years old in serious way..And I am an artist, so my one of biggest dream I have came true.
I chose what I want to do....
and I know because of Sena, I have been able to be an artist.

YES right, anyway, I should make myself up to do "what I should doand what I want to do"...

and as always, SAKURAIKUN's new songs(Mr. Children) helped me too,
I am not kidding..always in perfect moment, His Words save me from "the hole",

and here is my best INSPIRATION for my MOTIVATION, SENA,, my newest painting I have been working on,

and I have been working on my animation projects,
I want to make them as tv series,
and I just finished the story for,"SWIFTY AND BANGIRAS", comics to pitch to "FLIGHT" comics...

there will be a group show opening on coming this Saturday, I will go there 100% sure to see some of my old friends.
Before I go to CALARTS, I went to the school called ASSOCIATE IN ARTS in sherman oaks, it was private art school, and I learned traditional drawings and paintings besides animation, illustration skills. and Kevin Chen was one of my favorite teacher, he was still Art Center student yet he was master. I am so glad to show my works with him, hope he could give me teacher's critics for my works.
and John Watkiss, I took his drawing work shop, it was quite interesting and I liked it. I still remember those days..I was having so fun to draw and paint.
I cannot wait to see my friend Edwin and Sean also.....
and I really hope I can see many of my friends there too.
I have 4 paintings, and I just got framed for all, I will bring them to Nucleus tomorrow.
my story of works for this show is,
"Yellow", which is color of happiness I believe.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SENA!

Its Sena's 16th birthday today. she left to school, and I am just blogging now,, (yes,, I will paint after finish this blog.)
what I have been thinking past 6.7 months was..." I want to do something special for her 16th. birthday..",
well there were plan, I got an offer for solo show in September this year from one gallery on Bevery blvd. where close to my ex-home, so I thought I would have sena's birthday special mari solo show, with 16 of paintings, and drawings which are just about Sena. And having opening party as her birthday party..

The gallery was closed 3 or 4 months ago, unfortunately, so my plan was BOO...well, but still I am painting and drawing 16 of her..
I haven't finished them all yet though,,.

I have been super duper 100% lucky to have her as my own daughter for 16 years and I will be forever.

Thank you for being with me, Sena,
I love you always and I am hoping your happiness always, and I will do my best to make us happy...
you are my the red and yellow Sun (>_<)!!

I am using Skype now,, yes,finally, I called my friends in Japan,
I think it is super cool, we can talk to our friends all over the world for free.. wow,,, thank you Skype.

one of my friends who I talked on was mamechyo( not a real name though). I want to introduce for everyone, he is a comic book artist, illustrator, designer, and my reggae DJ team friend from looong time ago! hooray!!
I did sketch with him, while we were talking,

we were both so excited by what we were doing with COMPUTERS,, oh my gosh,, miracle (DORAEMON is getting close to us)
ha ha ha(>_<)

and my sister Yumi visited from Boston, and brought me all "BANANA FISH" comics, 11 of them as a present to cheer me up....( how nice of her) and I finished reading all yesterday, with eating new "chocoballs",, they were yummy, they are nicely fit together aren't they..nice designs...

and we went to have Sena's 16th birthday dinner with Tom and Beth at "Patina"..Thank you Tom and Beth!!

So,, I think I finally finished(?) a pretty big freelance job, I mean what big was that I needed to draw and paint from a seed to a big tree, from a word to a lot of words, which grew and changed again again again... kind of. And I painted in photoshop, yes not by my hand and brush, by wacom tablet. my hand is so tired. well anyway.. BIG PHEW.
I had been in super duper bad mood for 3 weeks, so Sena did not like it but she was just patient with dealing with marilla monster,,, and she just worried about me...
and so to make us feel better,
what we did today were,
played wii super mario cart a little bit...( I lOVE the game!)
and then
went to shopping, and got an iron, and oven toaster to eat super thick japanese bread toast.....uuummmm, but WE were not able to find japanese bread which I can cut it how we want, thick slice...
and then, I drew Sena.
She will be 16 years old next month.. Yes sweeeeet 16....

I will finish this painting today.

Here is a picture of Sena with goth-lori costume at comicon....sooooo many people wanted to take pictures,,,and I needed to stare at them most of time, they did not ask it was ok to take pictures or not........(X_X)
She will be on "GOTH" magazine...I did not know even such a magazine is existing in US

Finally We were able to register for Sena's new high school, and she will start school from September 2nd.
But before that she needs to take tests for placement of both English and Math classes..Even though she is straight A student...ha ha ha...just wanted to say..
Anyway, her vacation is over, needs to study for tests and needs to read 5 or 6 required books for English class, but this morning,,
she was still reading Japanese comics on computer and same time playing "tokimeki-memorial" on DS......

Well,,,I want to believe she knows what she needs to do....

I need to finish 3 more paintings before the end of this month... a lot of jobs.......tax stuff.... End of vacation for me for sure..

This is how I feel now.
I am still excited though...

I will leave to San Diego tomorrow morning..and my flyer is not coming yet yet yet...
I even used 3days shipping with UPS...
well......I am too lazy to do something for it... Because anyway it is too late.
I will do some signing with my new print at NUCLEUS booth # 1228, I do not know what time I will be at, but Nucleus will post the time I believe, so please check back their site.
or... I will bring my computer and then do comicon report!.. I think that sounds fun though.....
anyway.
I do not remember how many times I went comicon,, but I can picture first time when I had a booth with my friends from school.

I have been painting everyday for up coming shows...but I'm kind of stuck recently, so I went to see MD's show,,,and today...and finally I got ideas for some of new paintings, so I got really excited to think about and tried to draw them out on canvases before I forget the feeling! and I did it... and I got tired...
now I am sitting and blogging about it....what should I eat tonight....?
Sena said she can eat anything......I just do not want to cook..........uummmm.

By the way, two days ago, finally I got a chance to check out Yoskay's show at Project gallery!( since I was wondering about his works,,, really Japaneseish,,,and I like his concept about the show) and wow his works are pretty amazing....I think it would be fun to make art work together,, if I see him, I will tell him...and this is my favorite!

And I went to Royal T with Beau (Project gallery owner) and Edwin!(Edwin and I have been showing at same galleries,, and I like his ALIVE figures in his paintings and we are internet friends, but never seen him in person,so I was happy to see him, finally I did!!)
His solo show will be in July at Project gallery,,,, I will go to the opening for sure!

and oh my gosh!!! Royal T!! It is like a museum,,,even though there is no Japanese made,,,sighs,, I will go there today again......

3 years ago, I contributed two paintings for the first girls show at Nucleus, and that was first time for me to show my artworks at GALLERY, and I remember how happy I was to see my own artworks on the wall.
This is second girls show,, I was able to contribute again,, how lucky I am.. Please come to see all girls art works!!!!

8pm. I will be at Copro Nason!

So I think Luke is super duper busy now,,,,,"Go Luke Go! I know you can do it!"..but I finished.. I brought all my paintings to gallery, so I just need to wait. I really enjoyed painting for this show. I wanted to evolve as a serious painter more, and I believe I did a little. Most coolest thing for me is that I know what I want more than ever now.

So anyway ,there is still bad thing happening to me, and it is not going away yet, but I think I just do what I really want to for now, because too much thinking and worry make me just @!#$%^&^*&(*O^%^&!!!

I took pictures of my paintings which I finished, and I realized that I should get frames and make them ready for group shows in next Month..
Time passes so fast....

Well, I just want to say why I am not awake today, because I went to see reggae concert at echoplex last night with Chihiro_chan. And came back home around 2:30 am. and woke up 6:00 am... So,, yes I just have sleepy head..
OH yes, before we went to the concert, I ate yummy "NATTO-CHEESE-GYOZA" Chihiro cooked and had sake..So when we got echoplex, I was pretty wasted honestly...

The singer's name is HALF PINT, whose album was one of my favorite, while I was reggae DJ in Japan long time ago, so anyway I was super excited because he was singing in front of me!! JAH RASTAFARI!!
We danced KRAZY with strangers,,,,dangerous dangerous..well there was not enough space that was reason..(>_<)...It was really fun though.

But I missed NONI,,Noni is my best friend who was always next me, when we had fun at school, home, party and reggae night club...I haven't seen her pretty long time. She will deliver her own baby girl in June, I am planning to go to she her and her baby!

I painted my friend's daughter, Fuyune, and title of this painting is "a piece of hope",
I dedicated this painting to all of my girl friends and my best friend NONI, who will become a mother soon.

I painted two "FISHDISH" again...well if you are following what I have been doing for this show, you may notice I am making same title paintings since the first PIN show.

Unfortunatly, I cannot go to Seattle, but I will try tomorrow night...........

How many times do I have to lose myself...ha,I have been in kind of empty mind in almost one month...I am not able to control myself well yet,( I am having pretty bad cold too,,,it is flu I think.) but I think I should post what is happening to me, to let you know what I have been up to, so and here the things,

yes! I got my MINI COOPER! yey yey wow wow!!
it is first time for me to have a brand new car which I wanted 100%,, I mean I customized him. I just love him SO MUCH, so I get super nervous, when I am driving, stopping, parking,, and then finally I can feel "phew", when I put my can in garage......I named him,"MARILLA", I hope I can register him as "MARILLA". Ye~y!
Anyway,
and I had been watching,"Breaking Bad" on AMC! and just finished first season. I just wanted to mention, because it was sooo good!! Did you see it?
And I went to figure drawing workshop two times, I had pretty fun time! and drew my friends and also started new paintings for my group show in May,
and finished this one!

and,,watched,"Across the universe","August Rush","Iron Giant","John Adams",,
Enough to make me frustrated thinking about making new animation project.....
and had a lot of alcohol... scratch margarita and scotch! wine, cranberry vocka, beer and sake!
oops, I am suppose to take care of my health,,, well that has been most difficult thing to do... ha,, ha,, I am trying though..anyway...
I need to work out for sure..

oh yes,I found the nice spot, (and I think I will paint something like this image,,)

I thought about so many things in that moment. and made me realized,
"I need to be appriciate for where I am.."

It is my one of favorite streets in whole my LA life,, well,, it is pretty weird expression, but I like the street from 1995,, so I think it is pretty long time to see the difference in development...but my favorite coffee shop,, the name I believe was,"Van Gogh's ear" is not there anymore,, a little bit sad.

and one word for Justin Wright, who lived only 27 years, yet realized his dream, and taught me that," I won't give up my dream, I will do my best for as much as I can, and I will appriciate everyday, I am able to live."

I worked on 2 paintings yesterday, and I forgot to put graze on them, so I just did it this morning, and now I need to wait till they get dry.

so, I just took some pictures,
I will start new painting today, , I am pretty excited..

and one I have been working on for a while,

and monica bear painting,, it is first time for me to start this way,, I think. I was not able to be good with pencil to do drawing, so I tried drawing by brush on canvas.

After I did enough painting,,
I went to have dinner and NAMAbeer, with Audrey last night, we finally got a chance, and it was fun,, less drunk, since I needed to drive 20min. I did not want to have drunken head,, and Audrey was next to me,, you know,,, I had a big responsibility ha ha ha....
Next time hope we get wasted...somehow, we haven't for a while.

I have been working at NGTV again from middle of November, and I am there 10 hours, 5days, a week in dark art depertment, so I feel like weekends are so precious! there are so many things to do on weekends, but still I believe I am able to paint...
Honestly,, I need to force myself to do so.. or I will be lazy.. (since outside looks super nice..sunshineeee! aghhhh!)
I was there three years to do concept art works after I finished school in 2004, and got one year off to do other stuff, like some freelance jobs and gallery works.
One biggest coolest freelance job I did last year was for cartoonnetworkshow "class of 3000",
I storyboarded and artdirected "2 min. music video",
I believe I can see the music video on TV this year, I do not know when though,,, nobody told me when, I guess I should ask them.

And I did one COULD be a coolest freelance job for comic book series, "ABE SAPIEN", even though, the line art work is not by MIKE MIGNOLA, I was excited to paint for his ABE, (you know how much I love "HELLBOY"),unfortunately they did not like my color and texture... I wish I could get enough DIRECTION to COLOR for what they want, I might do better., well I still love MIKE MIGNOLA.. is for sure..........

Audrey is super duper sweet! not only that, of course, she is talented creative figurative artist.

well I miss her, but important aspect about her for me is that she is one of friends who can understand me as who I am, without mask.
